Lawnmowers
Edwin
Budding invented the reel mower in the late 1820's. Lawnmowers
increased in popularity due to outdoor sports like lawn tennis,
football, rugby, cricket, croquet, and lawn bowling. Originally steam
powered lawnmowers used petrol and kerosene as fuel but shortly after
the turn of the 20th century gasoline- powered lawnmowers started to
make their way onto the market, though they were the roller-drive
style. The rotary
blade lawnmower was engineered as the small engine was developed in the
1930's. Since then we have seen many advancements in riding lawnmowers,
robotic lawnmowers, hover lawnmowers and the classic push mowers.
For areas throughout the northern United States and most of Canada the
lawnmower retires for several months each year. For others
the
lawnmower is a regular appliance that is used weekly. Whether you
prefer a riding lawnmower or an electric blade lawnmower the job of
keeping up with your growing lawn seems never ending; for some
dreadful, while others see it
as a time when they can get their mind off their daily
responsibilities. The end result is a well manicured lawn that looks as
lush as the golf course fairways across town.
The chore of cutting grass can be
made easier if you have the proper
lawnmower for your needs. Depending on the size of yard you have it is
important to choose a lawnmower that makes the job a breeze. The
following are suggestions on the type of mower needed based on lawn
size (1/4 acre is approximately 10,000 square feet):
- less then 15,000 sq/ft. -
20- 22 inch cutting width lawnmower. Electric, gas or push style
lawnmowers.
- 15,000
to 25,000 sq/ft. - 21-22 inch cutting width combined with a higher
horsepower.
- 25,000
or more sq/ft. - Riding
lawnmower which have cutting widths of anywhere between 36-60 inches is
the best option to save time, money on gas and not to mention running
shoe insoles.
These recommendations are all dependent on your physical ability,
wellness and budget. Because riding lawnmowers are costly it comes down
to the age old question. What is your time worth?
Did
you know?
It is estimated that running a gas lawnmower for one hour is equivalent
to driving an SUV for 100 miles.
